The MD180 is built around a smooth-top deck design that prevents the accumulation of water and debris, significantly reducing the risk of corrosion and making daily clean-up a breeze. The center deck is constructed of 10-gauge steel, reinforced with heavy channel structures, while the wings are made of 10-gauge steel to maintain strength without adding excessive weight. One of the most critical features of the MD180 is the inclusion of standard deck rings, which protect the deck from being dented or damaged by the blades in the event of a strike.

Power distribution is handled by a robust drivetrain consisting of a 160 hp divider gearbox and three 120 hp spindle gearboxes. This configuration ensures that even when the 15-foot width is fully engaged in thick grass or weeds up to 3 inches in diameter, the machine maintains the blade tip speed necessary for a clean cut. To protect the tractor and the mower's driveline, the MD180 is equipped with three heavy-duty slip clutches that absorb the shock of hidden obstacles.

Maneuverability and ground tracking are key for a 15-foot machine. The MD180 features an independent shock-absorbing system for its axles and a Category 6 constant velocity (CV) main drive shaft, allowing for tighter turns without the vibration or noise common in lesser drivelines. The wings can operate from 88 degrees above horizontal to 22 degrees below, ensuring a consistent cut across uneven terrain, ditches, and embankments.
